There’s not a lot I can say about today, I spent the whole day standing in a small triangular room with concrete walls and no floor covering, at least it had air conditioning, talking network design and implementation with Reeme Kendric and Aduu Kisoma who were two of the IT staff that work for the college. I must say I was pleasantly surprised to find them very knowledgeable and receptive to all I suggested, it was made easier since there was a large whiteboard on the wall allowing me to draw rough diagrams to underline the theory. Everybody at the college was very friendly and even people I had not been introduced to would walk up and ask how I was and want to shake my hand.
We left ZTC at 18:30 and Danny gave Mike and I a quick tour of Dar Es Salaam, I even saw the Indian ocean for the first time since arriving here and yes, the sand was brilliant white. We drove through the local fish market where the smell of the sea and fish was very strong and the place was alive with hundreds of people going about the daily struggle to survive. We were redirected from going the way Danny wanted to since the president of Tanzania was on his way back to his palatial residence overlooking the Indian Ocean and I couldn’t help thinking that this is a country of haves and have nots, with young children begging in the street for money to buy food while some were driving around in large expensive Toyota cars.
