During our recent trip to Tanzania I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the children for learning and concerned by the relative poverty and shortage of scholastic equipment and materials.
The trip was an absolutely brilliant experience. It was wonderful to meet so many lovely people and experience an incredible welcome and hospitality everywhere we went. Though I did not feel that we were doing all that much, their gratitude towards us was heartfelt and sincere.
It was humbling to see how cheerfully they manage with what we would consider to be so little. The best equipped schools are desperately short of; basic equipment for science lessons, writing materials, books, in fact all the things which we would take for granted. In this context it was most encouraging to visit a few schools which had benefited from receiving computers donated from the UK. These children, who are so keen to gain a good education and help their country develop are being given a chance to raise their level of achievement and gain access to educational materials of a much higher quality than previously available.
I have seen first hand the difference that it makes to schools in Tanzania to have computers and I would like to say a heartfelt ‘Thank you’ to everyone who has taken the trouble of donating equipment to the appeal, on behalf of the Tanzanian children.
