Since its opening in 2008, Zoom Polytechnic College has been dedicated to training Tanzanians in ICT. The college is located near Tanzania’s capital, Dar es Salaam, and is fully kitted out with donated equipment from Computers 4 Africa. The Principal, Mr. Shija, explains his mission is to ensure that each student graduates with an understanding of ICT as well as the ability to apply that knowledge in any career.
During a recent visit to Tanzania, we had the privilege of meeting one of the college’s 2009 graduates, Said Omar Ali. According to Said, the first time he physically touched a computer was in 2006. Just three years later, Said was able to assemble a computer in record time and he received the top student award in ICT. Said aspires to be an IT Software & Hardware Engineer, and because of his training at Zoom Polytechnic College, he believes he is one step closer to achieving his dream and reaching his full potential.
