How we use the property - 2 different options

1 - Appeal site

We hold public appeals for the public and local businesses to donate and drop-off their PCs on 2 ‘Appeal Days’ every three months at each site. Hundreds of letters and emails are sent to local businesses;  local media are contacted; posters put up in community venues; the Local Authority and schools invited to participate with the local dignitaries invited to attend events.

We found that appealing more often than every 12 weeks is perceived as a nuisance by potential donors; any less and experience has shown that PCs are disposed of elsewhere in the interim. We sometimes need to store the PCs for 7 – 14 days on site while they wait for collection, but no longer.

2 - Storage Unit and Appeal Site

C4A also supports other charitable organisations with similar purposes, and has supplied computers to such organisations who have in turn sent them to countries in Africa, including Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa.  On a day to day basis, we collect and store computers and other IT equipment at various sites across the UK.  NGOs, Charities and Non-Profit organisations are invited to our sites to see the refurbished computers for themselves and buy the IT equipment they choose ex-works.  These individual items, which have already been data wiped, fault tested and safety checked are then stacked and shrink wrapped or boxed on pallets ready for containers as per the individual charitable organisation’s instructions.
